Cultural Rebalancing: A New Frontier In Global Diplomacy, Says S Jaishankar
New Delhi, Mar 31 - In a significant move towards cultural diplomacy, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of showcasing India's heritage, culture, and faith on the global stage. Speaking at Purana Qila in New Delhi, he announced the partnership between the government and NGO Sabhyata Foundation for the Adopt a Heritage 2.0 project. This initiative aims to enhance four historic monuments: Purana Qila, Humayun's Tomb, Safdarjung Tomb, and Mehrauli Archaeological Park over the next five years.

Jaishankar highlighted the need for cultural rebalancing in today's global dynamics, stressing the significance of acknowledging the world's diversity and correcting historical distortions. He underscored the relevance of India's epic Mahabharata, comparing its complexity and subtlety to other global epics and its applicability to contemporary challenges and opportunities.
Following a cultural performance themed on Mahabharata at Purana Qila, Jaishankar took to X to share his insights. He commended the efforts of Sabhyata Foundation, Ministry of Culture, and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in bringing this event to life. The minister also shared images from the event attended by Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Meenakashi Lekhi.
The Adopt a Heritage 2.0 project is spearheaded by the Ministry of Culture and ASI. It seeks partnerships with private and public sector entities to develop and maintain amenities at centrally protected monuments and sites. Sabhyata Foundation's role as Smaarak Saarthi involves improving visitor experiences at these heritage sites through increased footfalls, enhanced amenities, and memorable experiences focusing on hygiene, accessibility, safety, and knowledge.
ASI Director General Yadubir Singh Rawat expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, highlighting the need for private organization participation to preserve national cultural treasures for future generations. The project also includes other significant monuments like Qutub Minar, Agra Fort, and Elephanta Caves among others.
Sabhyata Foundation plans to introduce various activities at Purana Qila including a sound and light show, a museum showcasing excavated artefacts from different historical periods, and a souvenir shop. Plans for enhancing the other three monuments will be announced in due course. The foundation aims to enrich visitors' experiences through heritage walks, interactive displays, and fine dining experiences themed around Ancient Grains of India.
This collaboration between the government and Sabhyata Foundation marks a pivotal step in promoting India's rich cultural heritage on an international platform. Through such initiatives, India aims not only to preserve its historical monuments but also to showcase its vibrant culture and traditions to the world.
