Coronavirus cases: Telangana sees highest spike in COVID-19 cases in 7 months

Hyderabad, Apr 09: Amid rising cases of coronavirus in Telangana, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has directed officials to increase the number of COVID-19 tests in the state. A fine of Rs 1000 will be imposed on those who do not wear masks.

The CMO, on Friday said, "CM instructed the officials concerned to increase the Corona tests, as there is a surge in the Corona cases. He said all the front-line workers should be vaccinated. The CM wanted the entire process should be completed in a week's time."

Rao urged people to follow all COVID guidelines and be alert to contain the spread of the deadly disease. He further said that the wearing of masks should be implemented strictly in the southern state. "If people do not wear masks they should be fined Rs 1000 per person," CMO said.

The latest instructions from the CMO came after Telangana witnessed a rise of 2,055 new cases, the highest in seven months. The state's cumulative tally rose to 3,18,704. According to the director of public health and family welfare, the fatality rate of the state remains 0.54 per cent.

Greater Hyderabad reported 398 cases, the highest in the state even as bordering districts continued to record a surge in the numbers. Medchal Malkajgiri reported 214 cases, while Rangareddy district reported 174 cases, according to the state Health Department.

Nizamabad district which borders Maharashtra saw a big surge for the third consecutive day as it recorded 169 news cases of COVID-19. According to a tally shared by news agency IANS, the other affected districts include - Jagtiyal (99), Karimnagar (77), Warangal Urban (74), Sangareddy (65), Mahaboobnagar (60), Kamareddy (58), Mancherial (57), Nalgonda (54) and Khammam (50).
