Congress Chief Kharge Trains Guns On BJP For Bulldozer Action On Minorities

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge slammed BJP on Saturday, accusing the party of targeting minorities and using bulldozers as a tool to instill fear among citizens.

"Demolishing someone's home and rendering their family homeless is both inhumane and unjust. The repeated targeting of minorities in BJP-ruled states is deeply troubling. Such actions have no place in a society governed by the Rule of Law," Kharge expressed in a post on X.

Kharge said that natural justice should not be replaced by anarchy, asserting that legal offences should be addressed in courts rather than through state-sponsored coercion.

"The Congress Party strongly condemns the BJP state governments for their blatant disregard of the Constitution, using bulldozing as a tactic to instill fear among citizens. Anarchy cannot replace natural justice-offences must be adjudicated in courts, not through state-sponsored coercion," he added.

Kharge's remarks came in response to the demolition of a bungalow owned by Congress leader Haji Shehzad Ali in Bhopal. Ali was the main accused in a stone-pelting incident targeting police officers earlier in the week.

The demolition was part of the administration's response to the violence on August 21, when a mob allegedly surrounded the Kotwali police station and threw stones at police officers, demanding action against seer Ramgiri Maharaj for allegedly making objectionable comments about Prophet Mohammad and Islam during a religious event in Maharashtra.

In a similar incident, the Rajasthan government, led by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, ordered the demolition of a home owned by the family of a student accused of stabbing another student in Udaipur.

The incident occurred on August 16 following an argument between the two minors. The accused stabbed the victim, leading to severe injuries.

After the victim died on August 19, the Udaipur district administration demolished the accused's family's rented home, citing that the house was illegally constructed on forest land.

The demolition followed calls from Hindu groups and BJP leaders for Uttar Pradesh-style bulldozer action.
