VHP Backs Citizenship Amendment Act Implementation, Urges Aid for Refugees
The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has expressed support for the Indian governments implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which aims to grant citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. The VHP has called on its members and other social groups to provide assistance to these refugees in completing the formalities for obtaining Indian citizenship.
The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has expressed its support for the Indian government's notification of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rules, describing it as a positive step towards granting citizenship to persecuted refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. Alok Kumar, the VHP's chief, urged the organization's workers and other social groups to assist these refugees in completing the formalities for obtaining Indian citizenship.

Implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act
The central government announced the implementation of the CAA, 2019, which paves the way for undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who arrived in India before December 31, 2014, to receive Indian citizenship. The notification of the rules comes ahead of the anticipated announcement of the Lok Sabha elections.
Granting Citizenship to Persecuted Non-Muslim Migrants
With the notification of the CAA rules, the Narendra Modi government will commence granting Indian nationality to persecuted non-Muslim migrants, including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians, from the three aforementioned countries.
VHP's Appreciation and Support
Alok Kumar, the VHP chief, expressed gratitude to the central government for notifying the rules under the CAA, 2019. He emphasized that this action clears the path for refugees who have faced religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan to obtain Indian citizenship.
Ensuring Dignity and Equality
Kumar highlighted that the notification of the CAA rules will guarantee that these individuals can reside in India with dignity and as equal citizens. He drew attention to India's long-standing tradition of providing refuge, respect, and dignity to those who have endured hardships outside and seek shelter in India.
Background and Controversies
The CAA was passed in December 2019 and received the President's assent, but it sparked protests in various parts of the country. Several opposition parties criticized the law, labeling it as discriminatory. The implementation of the law was delayed due to the absence of notified rules.
