Cabinet Sub-Committee on Reservation Rules Addresses Aspirants' Grievances in Jammu Meeting
The cabinet sub-committee on reservation rules held a meeting on Wednesday to address concerns from students and aspirants about the current reservation policy, according to an official. The meeting, led by Minister Sakeena Itoo, focused on reviewing and discussing various aspects of the existing reservation policy.

Minister Javed Ahmad Rana, a member of the sub-committee, along with Commissioner Secretary Sanjeev Verma and Secretary Law Achal Sethi, participated in the discussions. Representatives from the General Administration Department were also present. The sub-committee was formed on December 10 last year to address grievances related to the reservation policy in the Union territory.
Reservation Policy Concerns
Reservations have become a contentious issue in Jammu and Kashmir following the Central government's decision to include more communities in the reserved category. Over the past five years, there has been an expansion of quotas in the Union territory. The Centre's move to increase the reservation quota to 70 per cent has faced growing objections.
Recent announcements have introduced a separate 10 per cent reservation for Paharis and other tribes. Additionally, there has been an enhancement of the OBC quota to eight per cent. These changes have sparked debates and concerns among various sections of society.
Sub-Committee's Role and Report
The cabinet sub-committee was established to examine grievances projected by several sections of aspirants against the existing reservation policy. It will submit its findings to the council of ministers, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The report aims to address issues raised by different groups regarding the reservation policy.
The sub-committee's discussions are crucial in understanding the impact of recent changes in reservation policies. By evaluating these policies, they aim to ensure fair representation for all communities while addressing concerns raised by affected groups.
As reservations continue to be a significant topic in Jammu and Kashmir, it is essential for authorities to carefully consider all perspectives. The sub-committee's efforts are aimed at finding a balanced approach that addresses grievances while maintaining equitable opportunities for all communities.
