BJP Activists Rally in Kolkata Demanding Release of Hindu Leader Chinmoy Krishna Das from Bangladesh

Approximately 200 BJP activists held a rally in Kolkata's Behala area on Tuesday. They demanded the immediate release of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a leader of the Bangladeshi Hindu community. Das, who leads the Hindu group Sammilita Sanatani Jote, was detained by Bangladesh Police at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday.

BJP Rally in Kolkata for Hindu Leaders Release

The protesters carried flashlights and chanted slogans for Das's release. They urged that no future arrests of minority community leaders should occur. The rally moved through Parnasree, Barisha, and other parts of Behala along Diamond Harbour Road around 9 pm, causing traffic disruptions.

Protests and Political Reactions

A local BJP leader stated, "We call for the immediate release of Das, whose only fault was that he protested the attacks on minority Hindus in parts of Bangladesh in the past few months." This sentiment reflects the growing tension over Das's arrest among his supporters.

Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, announced that BJP MLAs would march to the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission on Wednesday. They plan to protest against Das's arrest and threaten a blockade at the India-Bangladesh border in Petrapole, North 24 Parganas district.

Further Demonstrations Planned

In addition to these actions, another group called Hindu Jagran Manch has organised a march. This protest will take place on Thursday from Sealdah to the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Park Circus area. The aim is to express discontent over Das's detention.

On October 30, a case was registered against 19 individuals, including Das, at Chattogram's Kotwali police station. They were accused of disrespecting Bangladesh's national flag during a rally in Chattogram's New Market area involving the Hindu community.

The situation remains tense as various groups continue to voice their opposition to Das's arrest. The protests highlight ongoing concerns about minority rights and political tensions between communities in the region.
