Bihar: Woman stripped, thrashed, paraded naked on suspicion of murder


Patna, Aug 21: A woman was assaulted, stripped and paraded naked on Monday on the streets of Bihiya town of Bihar's Bhojpur district by a mob, which suspected her to be involved in the murder of a 16-year-old boy. The woman is currently under police custody and is undergoing medical tests. She has denied the allegations against her.

The man has been identified as Vimlesh Sav, who was found murdered near the railway tracks on Monday morning.

The Bihar police have so far arrested around 15 people in connection with the incident. It was alleged that the woman was probably attacked as the deceased Bimlesh Kumar alias Chhotu Sao was last seen with her.

The villagers, in a show of anger, burnt down shops and vehicles including police vehicles. Security has been beefed up in and around Bihiya following the clashes.

Meanwhile, the SHO has been suspended and senior police officials have been camping in Bihiya.

Patna Zone Inspector General, in reference to this particular case, told news reporting agency ANI that the Station House Officer (SHO) Bihiya has been suspended. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in the case and police raids are on to arrest the culprits.

The Dafli locality is known as an area of sex workers and "mujra". The deceased, an Intermediate student, had allegedly gone to meet the woman there.

Tejashwi Yadav, leader of opposition in Bihar took to his Twitter handle to express his grief and comment upon the issue. Shocked by the incident, he provoked Deputy CM of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi to break his silence over the matter. He went on to allege him of converting Bihar into 'rakshas raj' or rule of the demons and 'maha-jungle raj' or rule by the savages.
