Bihar: 'Bahubali' Anand Mohan Singh to be released from jail as Nitish govt tweaks rule
One of Bihar's 'bahubali' (strongman) politicians, Anand Mohan Singh, serving life sentence for the 1994 murder of an IAS officer, will soon walk out of jail, after the state government on Monday amended the prison rules allowing the release of the former MP and 26 others, as they have completed 14-year prison term.

The murder convict, meanwhile, attacked those questioning the order of his release.
Speaking to reporters, former MP & murder convict, who is out on 15-day parole for his son's wedding said, "I will return to jail after the ceremonies here and when release orders come, then I will call you all...I have already spent 15 years in jail. Then release is being done for my good behaviour under the jail rules.''
On Monday, Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government issued a notification paving the way for the release of gangster-turned former MP Anand Mohan from jail.
According to the notification, 27 other prisoners lodged in different jails will also be released.
Mohan's name is in 11th place on the list. His son and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) legislator Chetan Anand's wedding is scheduled on May 3 in Dehradun.
On Monday, top political leaders and ministers, including Nitish Kumar, his deputy Tejashwi Yadav and JDU chief Lalan Singh were present at the engagement ceremony of Mohan's son.
Anand Mohan Singh started his political career in the 1990s as a member of the Janata Dal party. He later joined the Samata Party and was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1995. He became a minister in the Bihar government in 1997.

While in jail, he formed his own political party, the Bihar People's Party, which he later merged with the Janata Dal (United).
Anand Mohan Singh has been involved in several other criminal cases, including the lynching of Dalit district magistrate Shashinath Jha in 1994 and the murder of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) leader Chandrashekhar Prasad in 1997.
Due to his criminal background, Anand Mohan Singh is a controversial figure in Bihar politics. Despite this, he has managed to win several elections and remains an influential political figure in the state.
