Bhopal Meat Ban Navratri: Authorities Enforce Temporary Closure of Meat, Fish, and Eggs
Authorities in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, have announced a temporary ban on the sale of meat, fish, and eggs during the Navratri festival 2025. The restriction will be in effect from September 22 to October 2, aligning with the nine-day festival dedicated to Goddess Durga.
Bhopal Sub-Divisional Magistrate Divya Patel stated, "Navratri will begin from September 22. In view of this, the sale of meat, fish, and eggs has been banned in this city from September 22 to October 2," as reported by ANI news agency.

In Uttar Pradesh's Harpur, police have directed hotels serving non-vegetarian food and meat shops to remain closed until October 2, according to Aaj Tak. A formal notice was issued to hotel operators and meat vendors, ensuring compliance with the temporary restriction.
Meanwhile, in Gurugram, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner requesting the closure of all meat and fish shops during Navratri. The memorandum highlighted that shops located near temples, schools, and residential areas could hurt the sentiments of devotees and cause inconvenience to citizens.
The VHP also cited concerns regarding violations of food safety and hygiene norms, which pose potential public health risks. VHP district president Surendra Tanwar urged the administration to "respect religious sentiments and public sentiments" by banning the sale of meat and fish while ensuring strict enforcement of hygiene standards.
