Bengal Sports Minister Aroop Biswas Praises State's Eighth Place Finish at National Games

West Bengal's Sports Minister, Aroop Biswas, praised the state's athletes for securing the eighth position in the medal tally at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand. The team brought home 47 medals, a significant leap from their 18th place finish at the previous Games in Goa in 2023. Biswas attributed this success to enhanced sports infrastructure.

Bengal Minister Celebrates National Games Success

Bengal's athletes delivered an outstanding performance, earning 16 gold, 13 silver, and 18 bronze medals. This achievement marked Bengal's best performance at the National Games in two decades. They surpassed states like Punjab, Delhi, Odisha, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, and Rajasthan in the medal standings.

Infrastructure Development Key to Success

Biswas credited Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the substantial improvements in sports infrastructure. He stated, "I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the medal winners from Bengal at the National Games. Their accomplishments will undoubtedly illuminate the reputation of Bengal and the nation as a whole in the years to come."

The National Games concluded on February 14. The Services Sports Control Board (SSCB), a traditional powerhouse, topped the medal tally for the fifth time in six editions. They amassed a total of 121 medals, including 68 gold, 26 silver, and 27 bronze.

Bengal's remarkable performance at the National Games highlights their progress in sports development. The state's athletes have set a new benchmark for future competitions.
