Beef ban in India affects Lions and Tigers in captive
Palash, March 30:The beef ban on Maharashtra may be seen as a political fight between the minorities and the right-wing dominated government at the centre, but in the war of the Titans, carnivorous animals in captivity are tasting dust.
The Tigers in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Mumbai, for instance, are now being fed chicken.
It is not known how much the recent ban on Beef and the subsequent punishment (if violated) will affect the beef-consuming sections of the society (which also include elite Hindus).
But zoo keepers and animal feeders rue that it would definitely reduce the strength of the animals.
To add to their woes, even Buffalo-meat dealers have gone on a strike against the move.
So, even Buffalo meat is unavailable. Babu Vishnukote, one of the feeders observed that the animals are devouring the chicken, which is a good sign.
However, another Shailesh Bhagwan Deore, who oversees the care of animals kept in captivity at the park, said,"In fresh beef, the animals get the taste of blood," Deore said. "They enjoy that."
