Bangladesh MP Allegedly Honey-Trapped and Murdered, West Bengal CID Detains Suspect
The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) made a significant development in the murder case of Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim Anar by detaining an individual on Thursday evening. The person, whose identity has not been disclosed, is believed to have connections with one of the main suspects in the case. This arrest throws light on the intricate web surrounding the tragic demise of the MP, who was allegedly lured into a fatal trap in Kolkata's New Town area.
According to police sources, the detained individual hails from a locality near the West Bengal-Bangladesh border and had previously met with a key figure implicated in Anar's murder. The nature of their meeting and the topics discussed are currently under investigation. Initial findings suggest that Anar's close friend, a US citizen, might have orchestrated the crime by paying approximately Rs 5 crore to contract killers. This friend, who owns a flat in Kolkata where Anar was last seen, is believed to be in the US presently.

The investigation has unveiled that Anar was possibly ensnared in a honey trap set by a woman closely associated with his friend. CCTV footage is being scrutinized by the CID, showing Anar entering the flat accompanied by a man and a woman, hinting at a premeditated murder. The subsequent disappearance of Anar after entering the flat, coupled with footage of two individuals exiting with a large trolley suitcase, raises grim suspicions about his fate.
Anar's mysterious disappearance on May 13 led to an extensive search that culminated in the discovery of his murder. Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan confirmed the arrest of three individuals in connection with the case on Wednesday. The CID's search efforts inside the New Town flat revealed blood stains and plastic bags, believed to have been used to dispose of Anar's body parts. The gruesome details emerging from the investigation suggest that Anar was strangled before being dismembered.
Efforts to mislead Anar's family and friends were made through messages sent from his mobile phone, indicating he was traveling to Delhi and should not be contacted. This tactic seemingly aimed to delay any attempts to locate him following his murder. The ongoing search for Anar's remains involves examining various locations where his body parts may have been discarded.
The case took a turn when Gopal Biswas, a resident of Baranagar and an acquaintance of Anar, filed a missing person report on May 18. Biswas reported that Anar had left for a doctor's appointment on May 13 and had not returned as expected. This report initiated the investigation into Anar's whereabouts, leading to the current findings and arrests.
The CID continues its thorough investigation into this complex case, piecing together evidence to understand the full scope of this tragic event. The international dimension of this crime, involving individuals across borders and substantial financial transactions, underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in solving high-profile murder cases.
