Assam Floods: BJP and Congress Rally to Support Victims
The ruling BJP and the opposition Congress have directed their members to assist those affected by the floods in Assam. Over 6.71 lakh people across 20 districts are currently impacted by floodwaters. This year, floods, storms, and landslides have claimed 46 lives so far.

BJP state spokesperson Manoj Baruah stated that the party stands with the flood-affected people throughout the state. "As per instructions from our state president Bhabesh Kalita, all our members from state to booth level are engaged in rescue and relief operations," he said. The party's state executive meeting, initially scheduled for July 10, has been postponed due to the flood situation, Baruah added.
Congress Response to Flood Crisis
State Congress vice-president Bobbeeta Sharma mentioned that party workers and leaders have been active in flood-hit areas for the past few days as the situation worsened. She noted that state president Bhupen Borah, leader of opposition in the state Assembly Debabrata Saikia, and others are visiting affected areas to provide assistance.
Sharma also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting Assam to assess the situation firsthand. "Whenever there would be floods during the Congress regime, ex-PM Manmohan Singh or Sonia Gandhi would immediately visit. But we have not seen Modi coming here during the flood," she said.
BJP's Efforts in Flood Relief
Baruah highlighted that BJP members are actively involved in rescue and relief operations across Assam. He emphasised that their efforts are in line with directives from state president Bhabesh Kalita. The postponement of their state executive meeting underscores their commitment to addressing the flood crisis.
The floods have severely impacted numerous districts, causing widespread distress among residents. Both political parties are striving to provide necessary support and relief to those affected by this natural disaster.
The ongoing efforts by both BJP and Congress aim to alleviate the suffering of those impacted by the floods. Their actions reflect a unified approach towards tackling this significant challenge faced by Assam's residents.
