Anurag Thakur Wins Hamirpur Seat for Fifth Consecutive Time

Union Minister Anurag Thakur has secured a victory in the Hamirpur parliamentary seat for the fifth consecutive term, surpassing his Congress opponent Satpal Raizada by a significant margin of 1,82,357 votes. The official count from the Election Commission reveals Thakur's impressive tally of 6,07,068 votes against Raizada's 4,24,711. Raizada, a former MLA from Una, faced a tough battle against the seasoned BJP leader.

Thakur Wins Hamirpur Again

Following his victory, Thakur expressed optimism about the BJP-led NDA's return to power at the Centre. He highlighted India's development strides under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership over the past decade and anticipated continued progress. Thakur also acknowledged the unwavering support from the people of Himachal Pradesh and committed to reciprocating their trust and support once the government is reinstated.

The electoral contest in Hamirpur was notably intense with high stakes for both Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Thakur. The constituency encompasses assembly segments that include areas under the political influence of CM Sukhu, Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri, and cabinet minister Rajesh Dharmani. A revolt within the state Congress added layers of intrigue to this parliamentary battle.

Thakur's history in Hamirpur dates back to his first election win in 2008, succeeding his father Prem Kumar Dhumal. Since then, he has maintained a strong foothold in this BJP bastion. The constituency has witnessed 17 elections since 1952, with the BJP securing victory in 10 of these contests.

The Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency is a political mosaic comprising 17 assembly segments spread across several districts including Hamirpur, Una, Bilaspur, Kangra, and Mandi. This diverse constituency has been a focal point of political campaigns, with issues ranging from financial packages for disaster relief to questions about reservation policies and religious sites stirring debates among candidates.

During the campaign trail, Chief Minister Sukhu accused the BJP of attempting to destabilize his government using financial inducements and criticized the denial of special financial assistance during severe monsoon calamities. In contrast, Thakur challenged the Congress on various fronts including their stance on the construction of the Ram Mandir and reservations for Muslims.

The BJP leveraged both the Ram temple issue and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity in their campaign narrative, accusing the state government of failing to fulfill its electoral promises. With a total electorate of 14,56,099 in Hamirpur and a voter turnout of 71.56 percent, this election has once again underscored the dynamic political landscape of Himachal Pradesh.
