Amit Shah Doubles Down On Article 370, Hits Out At Rahul Gandhi Ahead Of Maharashtra Polls

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has made a bold assertion that Article 370, which granted Jammu and Kashmir special status, will never be reinstated under any circumstances, not even if former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi were to return from the beyond.

This statement was made during a political rally in Dhule, Maharashtra, underscoring the Modi government's firm position on the issue, which remains a significant point of contention in Indian politics.

No Going Back on Article 370

Shah's declaration came amidst the political heat in Maharashtra, where state elections are imminent. The central government’s decision to revoke Article 370 in 2019, resulting in Jammu and Kashmir's bifurcation into two Union Territories, remains a point of controversy. However, Shah emphasized that the special status of Jammu and Kashmir is a closed chapter, resonating with the BJP's commitment to national integrity and sovereignty.

Direct Attack on Congress Leadership

Amit Shah also turned his attention to Congress, particularly Rahul Gandhi, in his speech. He strongly rejected any notion of altering the existing reservation system to accommodate Muslim communities in education and jobs. Citing a recent proposal from Muslim scholars suggesting reservations for Muslims, Shah retorted, "Rahul Baba, not only you but even if your four generations were to come, they cannot cut the quota meant for SCs/STs/OBCs and give it to Muslims." This was a pointed defence of the reservation system and a message that the BJP remains steadfast in its protection of the rights of Dalits, tribals, and other backward communities.

Shah also criticized Rahul Gandhi for his controversial actions surrounding the Indian Constitution. He recounted an episode in which Rahul Gandhi was seen brandishing a copy of the Constitution at a political event, only to later reveal that the pages were blank. Shah accused Gandhi of disrespecting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, stating, "By showing a fake Constitution, Rahul broke the trust of people and insulted Babasaheb. Apparently, you have never read the Constitution, Rahul baba."

Personal Jibes at Sonia Gandhi and Rahul's Leadership

Adding a touch of humor to his criticism, Shah mocked Sonia Gandhi’s repeated attempts to establish her son, Rahul Gandhi, as a political leader. He likened these attempts to repeatedly trying to land a plane that keeps crashing. "Sonia ji tried to land the plane named Rahul Baba 20 times and 20 times the plane crashed. Now again, an attempt is being made to land the plane for the 21st time in Maharashtra. Sonia ji, your Rahul plane is going to crash for the 21st time," Shah quipped, further diminishing the Congress party’s electoral prospects under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership.

BJP vs. MVA: A Clear Choice for Maharashtra

In his speech, Shah also highlighted the stark difference between the governance models of the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition. He warned voters about the MVA’s plans to divert Maharashtra's resources to Delhi and contrasted this with the BJP's vision of ensuring greater development for the state. "They (MVA) will withdraw funds from Maharashtra by using the state's resources and send the money to Delhi. In contrast, if the BJP-led Mahayuti forms a government, the Modi administration will ensure greater development for Maharashtra," Shah stated.

Conclusion: BJP’s Strategic Positioning

Amit Shah’s statements in Dhule were more than just political rhetoric; they were strategically aimed at solidifying the BJP's position in Maharashtra ahead of the state assembly elections on November 20. By reaffirming the non-negotiable stance on Article 370, defending the reservation system, and calling out the Congress leadership’s flaws, Shah sought to position the BJP as the party best equipped to safeguard national interests and ensure the state’s development. This approach aims to resonate with voters who prioritize national unity, development, and accountability from political leaders.
