Alleged Attack on Kejriwal Sparks AAP-BJP War of Words

On Friday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) raised serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that their leader, Arvind Kejriwal, was assaulted during his foot march in the Vikaspuri area of Delhi. Chief Minister Atishi, speaking at a press conference, accused the BJP of engaging in "dirty politics" by orchestrating the attack, suggesting that the BJP's inability to win against AAP and Kejriwal in elections has pushed them to adopt such extreme measures. Atishi, who assumed the chief ministerial role in Delhi the previous month, highlighted this incident as part of a broader pattern of harassment against Kejriwal by the BJP, including false legal charges and denial of medical needs.

Delhi Chief Minister's Stern Warning to BJP

Atishi issued a stern warning to the BJP during her address, stating, "I want to tell the BJP that people of Delhi will never forgive them if anything happens to Arvind Kejriwal." This statement underscores the gravity of the situation and the potential backlash the BJP could face from Delhi's populace. Such a warning reflects the tense political atmosphere in Delhi and the AAP's determination to stand up against what they perceive as targeted aggression towards their leader.

In addition to the recent attack, Atishi detailed the BJP's extended campaign of harassment against Kejriwal, mentioning instances where he was arrested and falsely charged by the party. She revealed the difficulties faced by Kejriwal, who has a 30-year history of diabetes, including a refusal by the BJP to provide him with insulin while he was incarcerated. It was only after significant protests by AAP workers and the intervention of the Delhi High Court that Kejriwal received the necessary medical treatment. Atishi articulated AAP's concern that these actions are part of a dangerous escalation by the BJP, culminating in an attempt on Kejriwal's life during his 'padyatra.'

BJP's Response

The BJP, however, has dismissed these accusations, with Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva arguing that public inquiries directed at Kejriwal regarding issues like polluted water do not constitute an attack. Sachdeva's comments suggest that the BJP views these confrontations as a normal part of political discourse, contrasting sharply with AAP's interpretation of events as politically motivated violence. This disagreement highlights the deep divisions between the two parties and sets a contentious tone for the upcoming assembly elections.

In the midst of this political strife, Kejriwal did not shy away from cautioning voters about the potential consequences of a BJP victory in the next year's assembly elections, including the possibility of power outages and increased electricity bills. This warning can be seen as part of AAP's broader campaign strategy to highlight the stakes of the election and mobilize support against the BJP.
