Adityanath Demands Apology from Rahul Gandhi for Hindu Remarks

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath criticised Rahul Gandhi on Monday for his comments about Hindus, demanding an apology for what he termed an insult to the soul of Mother India. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also condemned Gandhi's remarks, stating such language is unacceptable.

Adityanaths Call for Gandhis Apology

In his first speech as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi sparked controversy by claiming that leaders of the ruling party are not true Hindus as they engage in violence and hate. This statement led to significant protests from treasury bench members, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing Gandhi of labelling the entire Hindu community as violent.

Adityanath's Response

Adityanath expressed his views on X in Hindi, saying, "Hindu is the soul of India. Hindu is synonymous with tolerance, generosity and gratitude. We are proud that we are Hindus!" He questioned how someone from a group that calls itself accidental Hindus and engages in Muslim appeasement politics could understand this. "You should apologise to crores of Hindus of the world, Rahul ji! Today you have not hurt a community but the soul of Mother India," he added.

Speaking to reporters in Lucknow, Adityanath accused Gandhi of making these remarks to defame Uttar Pradesh and Ayodhya. "Rahul's false statement given in the House is extremely condemnable and shameful," he said.

Saini's Criticism

Haryana Chief Minister Saini also attacked Gandhi, saying, "Calling a particular religion violent and hateful from the sacred platform of Parliament not only tarnishes the dignity of Parliament but also promotes religious hatred." He added that Gandhi's actions were not in line with the dignity expected from someone holding the position of Leader of Opposition.

Saini further stated, "This language of insulting the majority of the country's population by calling them violent is not acceptable. In the democratic system, the public has been giving answers to the Congress party and will definitely punish it for this heinous crime." He emphasised that Hindu society is neither violent nor hateful but is conscious of cultural nationalism under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.

Ayodhya Compensation Claims

Adityanath addressed Gandhi's claims about compensation to people in Ayodhya, terming them incorrect. He stated that Rs 1,733 crore had been provided for compensation to those affected by development projects like Rampath, Bhaktipath, Janmabhoomi Path or airport construction. The state government also built multi-level shopping complexes for those whose establishments were demolished for these projects.

Gandhi's fiery speech included a sharp attack on the ruling BJP, asserting that Hinduism does not involve spreading fear, hatred and falsehoods. His remarks came during a discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President's address to a joint sitting of Parliament.

Modi's Intervention

During Gandhi's speech, Modi intervened and highlighted that calling the entire Hindu society violent was a serious issue. However, Gandhi responded by saying that the BJP and RSS do not represent the entire Hindu society.

The Congress leader further stressed that all religions advocate courage and fearlessness, citing Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism as examples.

The debate over Gandhi's comments continues to stir political tensions. Both Adityanath and Saini have made it clear they believe Gandhi's statements are harmful and divisive. The public response will likely influence future political dynamics.
