Accused in Murder of Goldy Brar's Cousin Shot Dead in Mohali, Punjab

A suspect linked to the 2020 murder of Gurwinder Singh, cousin of gangster Goldy Brar, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Mohali. The incident underscores the persistent gang violence affecting the region.

In a shocking incident, an accused in the 2020 murder of Gurlal Singh Brar was killed near the senior superintendent of police's office in Mohali, Punjab. Gurwinder Singh, also known as Lambbad, was shot by two unidentified attackers while attending a court hearing related to an opium recovery case. The assailants fired multiple rounds at him, resulting in his immediate death.

Gurwinder's wife reported that he had been receiving threats from Goldy Brar, a gangster based abroad. The Mohali police have booked Goldy Brar in connection with this murder. Gurwinder, who resided in Rurki Pukhta village, was attacked after leaving the court with his wife. As he approached his car, one of the attackers opened fire and then fled the scene.

Gangster Involvement and Threats

Goldy Brar, along with Rohit Godara and Vicky Pehlwan, claimed responsibility for Gurwinder's murder on social media. They alleged Gurwinder's involvement in Gurlal Singh Brar's murder. An unverified audio clip circulating online purportedly features Goldy Brar admitting to the killing and issuing threats following his parents' arrest.

The speaker in the audio clip addressed the state government, challenging them to face issues directly. "If you have the courage, be fair and face things head-on," he said. He also warned that while governments change, his network is global, unlike officials confined to Punjab.

Police Investigation and Eyewitness Account

An eyewitness described the shooting incident as initially sounding like a car tyre burst. However, upon closer observation, he saw a man wearing a cap firing at Gurwinder from close range. Another accomplice waited nearby on a bike. The eyewitness is an advocate by profession.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Nanak Singh stated that Gurwinder had attended a hearing related to a 4 kg opium recovery case and was out on bail. He had a criminal background and was named in Gurlal Brar's murder case. This angle is being investigated further.

Legal Actions and Police Efforts

The police have registered a case against Goldy Brar under Sections 1031 for murder and 612 for criminal conspiracy of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with charges under the Arms Act at Police Station Sohana. Multiple teams are working on technical analysis and human intelligence to trace and apprehend the culprits swiftly.

Goldy Brar was designated as a terrorist by India in 2024 under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). He is believed to be residing in the US currently. Previously associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, he now operates with the Brar-Rohit Godara-Kala Jatheri gang after parting ways last year.

The DIG assured that they have leads on who orchestrated the attack and are actively pursuing them. "We are investigating the matter," he told reporters, promising that those responsible will be caught soon.
