Accused in Constable Murder Shot Dead After Allegedly Attempting to Attack Police in Telangana

A 24-year-old man accused of murdering a constable in Telangana was shot dead after he allegedly attempted to attack police by snatching a firearm. The incident occurred at a government hospital where the accused was admitted.

A 24-year-old man, Shaik Riaz, accused of killing a constable in Telangana's Nizamabad district, was shot dead on Monday. Police fired at him after he allegedly tried to attack them by grabbing a pistol from an officer. The incident occurred at a government hospital where Riaz was admitted.

Three policemen on duty heard noises of breaking glass and smashing doors from the ward where Riaz was held. They entered to find him causing a disturbance. When they attempted to calm him, Riaz seized a pistol from one of the officers and attempted to fire it. Despite being urged to drop the weapon, he refused.

Police Response and Investigation

With no other options, an officer shot Riaz, who then collapsed with bullet wounds. Nizamabad Commissioner of Police P Sai Chaitanya confirmed that a case was registered and an inquiry is ongoing as per Standard Operating Procedures. Post-mortem and other formalities are being conducted according to guidelines.

DGP B Shivadhar Reddy paid tribute to the deceased constable, Pramod, who died after being attacked by Riaz. The DGP emphasized the commitment of Telangana police to maintain law and order, stating that they would take strict action against criminals.

Family Reactions and Support

The family of the late constable expressed relief over Riaz's death. Pramod's wife described her husband's death as an irreparable loss but took pride in his martyrdom. The DGP announced benefits for Pramod's family, including Rs 1 crore ex-gratia, a government job for a family member, and a 300 sqft house plot.

Riaz's family alleged police misconduct in their efforts to gather information about his whereabouts. They spoke to news channels about their grievances regarding police actions against them.

Background of the Accused

Riaz had previously been involved in a vehicle theft case. On October 17, he attacked constable Pramod with a knife while being transported to the police station on a two-wheeler in Nizamabad city. Pramod succumbed to his injuries following the attack.

A Sub-Inspector also sustained finger injuries during the incident when Riaz fled the scene. Police investigations revealed that Riaz attempted another attack in Sarangapur under Nizamabad Town-6 police station limits on Sunday.

A police release stated that Riaz faced 61 cases, including charges of attempted murder, robbery, murder, and theft. The police acted swiftly to apprehend him.
