Hyderabad Weather Alert: IMD Predicts Thunderstorms, Rain And Gusty Winds This Week

After a dry spell, Hyderabad is set to experience a shift in weather, with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a state-wide alert for Telangana, warning of rain, lightning, and gusty winds through Wednesday, June 11.

Although the city did not record any rainfall between Saturday and Sunday morning, cloudy skies are expected to persist throughout the week. The IMD anticipates isolated rain spells, particularly in the afternoons and evenings, with thunderstorms likely to intensify during these periods.

The weather is also expected to bring some relief from the summer heat. The cloud cover will help moderate temperatures, with daytime highs hovering around 36°C and nighttime lows near 26°C. On Sunday, Hyderabad recorded a high of 37.5°C-slightly above normal-and a low of 25.6°C. Humidity was 65% in the morning, dropping to 45% by evening, which contributed to the muggy conditions.

The IMD has urged residents to remain vigilant during adverse weather, especially in open areas that are prone to lightning strikes and strong winds. All districts in Telangana are expected to witness weather fluctuations, and duststorms may also occur in some regions.

The Weather forecast for the week ahead includes:

  • Thursday, June 12: Stray morning showers
  • Friday, June 13: Light rain likely in the afternoon
  • Saturday, June 14: Scattered thunderstorms expected
  • Sunday, June 15: Chance of brief afternoon rain
  • Monday, June 16: Slight afternoon showers
  • Tuesday, June 17: Rain and a possible thunderstorm

Looking beyond June 11, the weather is projected to become more consistently cloudy, with a higher chance of widespread rainfall. Daytime temperatures may cool slightly, remaining in the 34°C to 35°C range.

Sunrise is currently around 5:41 am and sunset near 6:49 pm. Moonrise will gradually shift, starting from approximately 4:24 pm in the coming days, according to the IMD.
