Chilling 'relief' camps vs 20 cr SAIFAI, SP makes a wrong choice again

Lucknow, Jan 9: It is not unknown that the Samajwadi Party is known for its 'overhyped' gimmicks-be it in politics or in civil administration. From Durga Shakti's suspension to the release of hatespeech mongers of the Muzaffarnagar riots, Mulayam and Akhilesh government has been criticized for their wrong choices, oversensitivity, arrogance and pomposity every now and then.

Take the case of the SAIFAI events that was held yesterday, which saw the 'august' presence of celebrities, politicians, Bollywood stars and foreign dancers.

A Facebook page on SAIFAI tried well to cover up the Rs 20 Cr display of celebration of the Yadav family tree as a cultural extravaganza; however, the picture is crystal clear for us Indians who hear news of death, riots and distress in the Muzaffarnagar 'relief' camps every single day.

Our question is whether the spend was worth it? Especially when it could be used in relieving the riot victims of cold, hunger and threat of security. True, that the event takes place every year in the memory of Mulayam Singh Yadav's nephew Ranveer Singh Yadav, but is preserving a family hegemony more worthy than saving lives.

Doesn't the death of 35 children or the rape of a 16-year old girl ring a bell in the Mulayam government's ears that its about time that they stop the naked dance of power politics at the cost of the public?
