Delhi Rajendra Nagar IAS Aspirants Death: Were Students Locked In Flooded Basement Due To Biometric? FactCheck

In the death case of 3 IAS aspirants in Delhi's Old Rajendra Nagar, some new facts have now come to light. According to some media reports, 35 students were locked in the basement of Rau's IAS coaching institute after its biometric locking system failed. It was said that the basement of the building flooded within a few minutes due to heavy rain, while some reports said that a water pipeline got cracked after it was hit by a car.

Allegedly, the drainage and sewage system, which should have been repaired or fixed before the monsoon season, failed in the area, and a large amount of water entered the basement of the coach institute resulting in sudden waterlogging.

It was reported that entry gates were locked as water fused the biometric locking and unlocking system and students who were studying at that time were trapped inside the basement.

What's the truth:

OneIndia met students protesting on the streets of Rajendra Nagar in demand of justice for their deceased friends. A student of Rau's Institute said that some facts presented by mainstream media are incorrect. She said that the claim that students were stuck because of biometric system failure is incorrect as there is no biometric system installed in the basement.

She said that basement is not even a library, as claimed by some media houses, and it is actually a test center cum study room, also a store is built there, but it's not a library.

The student also expressed doubt on the official number of deaths, which is 3 as reported by the authorities. She said that she saw several ambulances and rescue teams even took away some bodies in police vans too.

She alleged that authorities are not sharing the right number of casualties and no official is ready to tell what happened to the rest of the students who were there inside the waterlogged basement.
