Vijay Divorce: Supporters Flash Sangeetha-Thalapathy Photo at Thanjavur Rally Amid Divorce Proceedings

Images of Vijay and his wife Sangeetha unexpectedly became the talking point of a high-profile political meeting in Thanjavur, blurring the lines between personal life and public politics once again.

As the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief was addressing party administrators and cadres, a group of supporters lifted a framed photograph of Vijay with Sangeetha from within the crowd. What may have been intended as a symbolic gesture quickly turned into a viral moment. Cameras captured it. The image flashed on giant LED screens flanking the stage. Television channels broadcasting the rally carried it live. Within minutes, screenshots flooded social media timelines.

The timing amplified the impact. The display comes amid the ongoing divorce proceedings between Vijay and Sangeetha in a Chennai court, a case that has already drawn intense scrutiny and speculation. As a result, the photograph was no longer just a fan tribute - it became a statement open to interpretation.

Reactions were swift and polarised. Supporters argued that the gesture reflected continued affection and respect for both Vijay and Sangeetha despite their personal differences. They claimed it showed that "real fans" stand by the family and would not indulge in online hostility.

Critics, however, questioned the optics. Some suggested the public projection of the image at a mass rally was a calculated attempt to soften narratives surrounding the divorce controversy. Others viewed it as a subtle political message - signalling stability, dignity, and restraint amid turbulence.

The divorce case itself has triggered intense online discourse. After Sangeetha filed her petition alleging physical and mental harassment, a section of Vijay's supporters faced backlash for allegedly targeting her with abusive content online. Party insiders now insist that such behaviour does not represent the core support base and that the Thanjavur display was meant to counter negativity rather than fuel it.

Vijay Attacks DMK

In a fiery and emotionally charged address at Thanjavur, actor-politician Vijay launched a blistering attack on the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, declaring that the upcoming Assembly election would be nothing short of a battle for Tamil Nadu's identity.

Reiterating a line that first stirred debate in Vellore, Vijay said, "Tamil Nadu is Vijay, Vijay is Tamil Nadu." He explained that the remark was not arrogance but conviction. "We are the true representatives of the people of Tamil Nadu. That is why I said it," he asserted, positioning his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), as the authentic voice of the state.

He sharpened the political pitch further by framing the election as "Tamil Nadu versus Stalin," and even "Tamil Nadu versus Delhi," accusing rivals of attempting to divide voters and mislead minorities through what he described as "shady and underhanded politics." Without mincing words, Vijay alleged that the DMK government had failed to protect the state's interests and was complicit in sand mining irregularities and mineral loot.

Citing court observations, he questioned the government's handling of alleged sand mafia operations and warned that unchecked groundwater depletion could push Tamil Nadu towards a severe water crisis. Referring to a recent report on water scarcity, he said, "If water runs out, bankruptcy follows. This is not drama-this is reality."

The TVK chief also trained his guns on the state's mounting debt, accusing the government of "taking loan after loan" while ignoring farmers' distress. From crop damage in the Delta region to fertilizer shortages, Vijay claimed that the ruling dispensation had abandoned the agrarian backbone of the state.

In a major announcement, he promised that if TVK forms the government, crop loans taken from cooperative banks by farmers owning up to five acres would be fully waived. For those with larger holdings, up to 50% relief would be explored. He also pledged free education-from vocational courses to professional degrees-for children of small and landless farmers, provided no family member is employed in government service.

Turning to inter-state river disputes, including Cauvery and Mullai Periyar, Vijay accused the DMK of delaying major infrastructure projects until the final year of its term for electoral optics. "If you had real intent, you would start on day one-not at the end," he remarked.

He further promised legal protection and stronger advocacy for fishermen, regulation of procurement centres to prevent paddy wastage, strict action against commission practices in ration shops, and a focus on core public services such as education, healthcare, drinking water, roads and public transport.
