Two years after 'Hridayam', Pranav Mohanlal is back with his latest venture 'Varshangalkku Shesham'. He has collaborated with Vineeth Sreenivasan again.

The movie has Dhyan Sreenivasan and Kalyani Priyadarshan in the female leads. Aju Varghese, Basil Joseph, Neeraj Madhav, Shaan Rahman, YG Mahendran, Neeta Pillai and others in the supporting cast. The movie has Amrit Ramnath's music, Viswajith Odukkathil's cinematography and Ranjan Abraham's editing.

'Varshangalkku Shesham' Story

The film follows the journey of two friends, Murali and Venu, whose aspirations lead them on distinct paths. While Venu is passionate about theater and dreams of making a mark in that field, Murali's ambition lies in becoming an independent musician. Despite their divergent approaches to life, both friends share a common desire to pursue their passions, forcing them to relocate to Madras. What happens in their friendship for the four decades form the crux of the story.

'Varshangalkku Sesham' offers a cinematic journey that unfolds in two distinct halves, each with its own narrative flavour and impact.

The first half of the film transports viewers back in time, evoking a theatrical ambience marked by melodramatic dialogues and vivid character portrayals. While this segment risks the possibility of veering into self-indulgence, it sets the stage for a comprehensive exploration of the storyline.

However, the second half of the film is thoroughly enjoyable. Here, the performances, particularly by Basil Joseph, Aju Varghese, and the standout portrayal by Nivin Pauly, infuse the film with humour, introspection, and a deeper contemplation of the entertainment industry's dynamics. Nivin Pauly's adept handling of various career challenges, from paving his own path to navigating through body shaming and trolling, is commendably transformed into elements of levity, eliciting genuine laughter from the audience.

Amrit Ramnath's musical compositions strike a fine balance between nostalgic undertones and contemporary beats, further enhancing the audience's engagement with the unfolding events.

As far as the performances are concerned, Pranav shines in his youthful avatar but his acting in the salt-and-avatar look is not up to the mark. However, Dhyan's emotive portrayal, contributes to the film's overall appeal.

Ranjit Nair: #VarshangalkkuShesham has a lot of feel good moments which work well. Meta references & jokes on various people from the industry are in abundance. Dhyan was excellent in his role, but the loudest laughs & claps were for Nivin Pauly. That character was a hoot and Nivin excelled!

Negative side was that his drunken acting was not so appealing. But combination scenes were touching.
