Who Is TTV Dhinakaran, Man Accusing Vijay's TVK of Forging Letter?

Tamil Nadu's TVK leads a coalition to form a majority government, enabling C. Joseph Vijay to be sworn in as Chief Minister. The consolidation hinges on support from Congress, CPI, CPI(M), and VCK, amid allegations of letter forgery and shifting loyalties within AMMK and IUML.

In a dramatic turn of events,AMMK General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran came to the spotlight after making allegations against Vijay's TVK of forging a letter to falsely project AMMK backing in government formation in Tamil Nadu.

The AMMK General Secretary rushed to Lok Bhavan on Friday to personally hand a fresh communication to Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar. Dhinakaran said the original report of AMMK backing the Tamil Nadu TVK government formation was false and politically motivated. He insisted the viral letter misrepresented the party's stand and created confusion at a critical stage.

Speaking to journalists after meeting Governor Rajendra Arlekar, Dhinakaran explained that he had already written earlier that day in favour of AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami. The new letter, he said, clearly showed that Kamaraj S supported AIADMK and the NDA bloc, and not the Tamil Nadu TVK government formation process.

"I am supporting AIADMK. I have submitted this letter in support of Edappadi Palaniswami to form the Govt. Our MLA Kamaraj has also signed it and sent it through my secretary. When I saw TVK, I was shocked. because there was some other letter - maybe a forged letter, or it may be horse-trading. I called up my MLA, but I was not able to reach him...He signed this letter around 6.30 pm and sent it here. When I saw on TV that our party had supported Vijay, I was shocked. So, I got an appointment with the Governor, and I have submitted the letter to him, asking him to investigate that," he said.

Who Is Dhinakaran?

TTV Dhinakaran is a prominent name in Tamil Nadu politics. He is the founder and General Secretary of the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) party.

Born on December 13, 1963, as Thiruthuraipoondi Thiruvenkatam Vivekananda Dhinakaran, he is the nephew of the late VK Sasikala, close aide of former Tamil Nadu Chief late J Jayalalithaa and believed to be calling the shots in the AIADMK till she was alive. His supporters call him "Makkal Selvar," meaning the people's treasure.

He previously served as AIADMK treasurer and was a member of both Lok Sabha (1999-2004 from Periyakulam) and Rajya Sabha. Expelled from AIADMK in 2017 amid internal conflicts, he won the R.K. Nagar by-election as an independent that year and later founded AMMK in 2018.

Dhinakaran contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Theni as an AMMK candidate at age 60, holding a 12th-pass qualification and facing six criminal cases per disclosures. He remains active in Tamil Nadu politics, with assets over ₹12 crore reported in past filings.

In 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections, his party was in alliance with the NDA and it won one seat.

Drama Around Vijay's Oath Taking Ceremony

Actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay was supposed take oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister today, after days of tense negotiations. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, or TVK, leads with 108 seats. However, it needs 10 more seats for form the majority.

Congress, which won 5 seats, had already assured backing to Vijay, while Left parties CPI and CPI(M), each with 2 seats, later offered support. However, the VCK extended support but it has not given its backing to the new government in letter.

Thus delaying the oath-taking ceremony. Meanwhile, reports suggested that TVK had reached out to IUML to help hit the 118-seat majority mark. IUML leader AM Shahjahan denied issuing any letter of support to TVK or to other claimants.
