Tamil Nadu Weather: Vilupuram Receives 18 CM Rain; Heavy Rain Alert For Several Districts For Next 5 Days
Heavy rains swept across parts of Tamil Nadu on Thursday as the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) issued a yellow alert for multiple districts over the next five days.
On August 8, Vilupuram received the highest rainfall, recording 18 cm. This was followed by 12 cm in Sethiyathope (Cuddalore), 11 cm in Bhuvanagiri (Cuddalore) and Pondicherry Town (Puducherry), and 9 cm in Tirukoilur (Kallakurichi) and Manamadurai (Sivagangai). Other notable rainfall figures include 8 cm in Chidambaram (Cuddalore), Vepur (Cuddalore), Puducherry (Puducherry), Tindivanam (Villupuram), Yercaud (Salem), and Thirukkanur (Puducherry).

The RMC forecasts light to moderate rain, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h in isolated areas across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal in the coming days.

- August 11, 2024: Heavy rain likely in Ghat areas of Coimbatore, as well as Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Pudukkottai, and Thanjavur districts.
- August 12, 2024: Expect heavy rain at isolated spots in Ghat areas of Coimbatore and Tirunelveli, along with Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, Tiruppur, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Sivagangai, Madurai, and Kanyakumari districts.
- August 13, 2024: Heavy rain anticipated in Ghat areas of Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, and Tirunelveli, with additional rain in Nilgiris, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tirupattur, Erode, and Kanyakumari districts.
In Chennai, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy with light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning. The maximum temperature is forecasted around 35°C, while the minimum is expected to be between 24-25°C.
Weather interpreter R. Pradeep John, known as the Tamil Nadu Weather Man, shared an update: "Storms are moving into North Chennai areas. It's pitch dark here in Parrys. Expect stormy weather as we leave the office in parts of North and Central Chennai."
