Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Valparai Sees 31 CM Rain; Red Alert For Nilgiris, Coimbatore
In the past 24 hours, ten locations in Tamil Nadu recorded heavy rainfall, with Valparai in Coimbatore district receiving the highest amount at 31 cm.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a red alert for the Nilgiris district and the Ghat areas of Coimbatore district for today, indicating extremely severe weather conditions that are likely to disrupt travel and power supplies and pose a significant risk to life.
"Isolated heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy rain at one or two places is likely to occur over Nilgiris district and Ghat areas of Coimbatore district. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Ghat areas of Theni & Tenkasi districts. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Ghat areas of Tiruppur, Dindigul & Tirunelveli districts and Kanyakumari district," the weather agency said in its daily bulletin.
An orange alert has been issued for the Ghat areas of Theni and Tenkasi districts, signaling potentially severe weather with possible disruptions to transport and power supplies. Additionally, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari districts are under a yellow alert, suggesting that severe weather may persist for several days and could worsen.

- Orange/Amber (Be Prepared): Warns of potentially extreme weather that could affect travel and power supplies.
- Red (Take Action): Signals imminent severe weather with high risks to travel and power supply, necessitating immediate action.
For Wednesday and Thursday, the RMC has extended the orange alert to include the Nilgiris district and Ghat areas of Coimbatore. The yellow alert remains in effect for these areas.
In Chennai, the sky is expected to be partly cloudy with light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in some areas. The maximum temperature is forecasted to be around 37°C, with a minimum temperature between 27-28°C.
