However, the dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest of the state.

The RMD has issued a "thunderstorm and lightning warning over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karikal on April 9. "Thunderstorm & lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over Tamilnadu,
Puducherry and Karaikal area," the statement noted.

There is no significant change in the maximum temperature over these three regions in the next two days. However, a gradual decrease of 2-3°C is likely in the said days, the weather-monitoring agency stated.

"Humidity is likely to be about 30-50% in the afternoon hours and 40-70% during the rest of the day over the plains of interior districts; and 50- 80% over the coastal areas during the next five days," it added.

The maximum temperature is expected to be 3-5°C above normal in several areas across the plains of north interior Tamil Nadu and 2-4°C above normal in a few areas across the rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. In specific locations, temperatures may reach 40°C to 41°C in some pockets of the north interior districts, 38°C to 40°C in many pockets of the interior plains, and 34°C to 37°C in coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

Heat Wave Warning
Heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated pockets over plains of north interior Tamil Nadu districts during the next two days, the RMD stated.

"Due to high temperatures and humid conditions, hot and discomfort weather is likely at isolated pockets over Tamilnadu during the next five days," the statement said.

As far as the Chennai weather is concerned, expect partly cloudy skies with a maximum temperature likely to range between 36-37°C and a minimum temperature likely to hover around 26-27°C.
