Tamil Nadu Weather Update: 3 Dists On Orange Alert, 15 On Yellow Alert; Chennai Braces For Moderate Rain
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast heavy rainfall for 18 districts in Tamil Nadu today.
An orange alert has been issued for Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, and Thoothukudi districts, while yellow alerts have been placed for the Ghat areas of Coimbatore and Tiruppur, as well as the districts of Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, and Pudukkottai.

An orange alert indicates expected rainfall between 115.6 to 204.4 mm within a day, while a red alert is issued for rainfall exceeding 204.5 mm in a 24-hour period. A yellow alert serves as a warning for potentially adverse weather conditions that could disrupt daily life.
For Saturday, the weather agency has also issued a yellow alert for the Ghat areas of Coimbatore and Tiruppur, along with the districts of Nilgiris, Erode, Namakkal, Salem, Karur, and Dindigul. Heavy rains are anticipated to continue until the 16th.

In Chennai, the sky is expected to be partly cloudy, with moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in certain areas. The maximum temperature is likely to range between 32-33°C, while the minimum temperature will be around 25-26°C, according to the RMC.
On Thursday, Puducherry Town recorded the highest rainfall at 9 cm, followed by Madukkur in Thanjavur with 8 cm. Singampunari in Sivagangai, Kallikudi in Madurai, and the Puducherry AWS also received 7 cm of rain each.
