Tamil Nadu Weather Update: 12 Districts To Get Heavy Rains, Chennai To See Light Showers

Tamil Nadu Rains: Rains are back with a bang in Tamil Nadu, with 12 districts predicted to receive heavy rains on Tuesday, February 11.

According to Regional Meterological Centre in Chennai, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram districts and Karaikal are expected to get heavy rains tomorrow. Thus bringing relief from the scorching heat.

Districts on Alert

Of the above mentioned districts, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Thoothukudi have been placed under an orange alert, indicating a heightened risk of severe weather conditions. The remaining districts and Karaikal are on yellow alert, signaling moderate rainfall.

Weather Warnings Explained

As per the Indian Meterological Department, an yellow Alert indicates moderate rainfall that may cause flooding in low-lying areas and disrupt outdoor activities.

And orange Alert indicates a heavy rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm within 24 hours. This alert warns of potential flooding in streets, streams, and low-lying areas, along with possible disruptions to transportation, power outages, and landslides.

Temperature

The RMC has forecast no significant change in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu over the next three days (March 10 to March 12). However, isolated pockets may experience a rise of 2-3°C from March 13 to March 15, the weather agency noted in its daily bulletin.

On Sunday, Karur Paramathi recorded the highest maximum temperature of 38.5°C in Tamil Nadu. Maximum temperatures across the state ranged between 33-39°C in North Interior Tamil Nadu, 34-36°C in South Interior Tamil Nadu, and 31-33°C in coastal areas, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

Local Forecast for Chennai

Day 1 (March 10): Maximum temperature of 33-34°C, minimum of 23-24°C. The sky will be partly cloudy, with light rain likely in some areas.

Day 2 (March 11): Maximum temperature of 32-33°C, minimum of 22-23°C. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is expected in some areas.
