Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: 16 Districts On Yellow Alert, Chennai To Get Light Showers Today
Tamil Nadu Rains: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in as many as 16 districts across Tamil Nadu today.
Yellow Alerts For These Districts
According to the latest bulletin, districts including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari are likely to receive heavy rains over the course of the day.

The alert comes amid widespread rain activity recorded in several regions on Thursday, with multiple areas reporting significant downpours. According to the Public Works Department (PWD), Makkinampatti in Coimbatore and Kayalpattinam in Thoothukudi districts received the highest rainfall of 10 cm each. Other notable rain measurements include 8 cm each in Thangachimadam (Ramanathapuram), Alangudi (Pudukkottai), Moolaikaraipatti (Tirunelveli) and Kalugumalai (Thoothukudi). Several other areas including Ottapadiram, Vadakuthu, Kayathar, Sendurai, Pollachi, Sivagiri, and Radhapuram also reported rainfall between 6 to 7 cm.

Chennai To Get Rains
Chennai is expected to witness thunderstorms and lightning, accompanied by light to moderate showers in some areas. The city's maximum temperature is likely to hover around 34°C, while the minimum temperature will be between 27 and 28°C.
The RMC has further predicted that rainfall will persist into tomorrow in a few districts. Heavy rains are likely to continue in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Theni, Dindigul, Tiruppur, and Salem.

On the temperature front, a notable fall of 2 to 5°C in maximum temperatures has been recorded across parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, with temperatures remaining below normal at several locations. Maximum temperatures ranged between 31°C to 35°C in the plains of North Interior Tamil Nadu, and 33°C to 35°C in South Interior regions. Coastal regions recorded 27°C to 34°C, while hilly areas saw a much cooler range of 18°C to 29°C.
Karur Paramathi and Palayamkottai recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 34.5°C, while Karur Paramathi also registered the lowest minimum temperature at 21.5°C among plains regions.
