Tamil Nadu Toll Fees On National Highways Hiked: Check New Rates On NH-66
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has increased the toll fees at 25 toll plazas on national highways across Tamil Nadu. The toll rates have been raised by 5 to 7 percent, resulting in an increase of Rs 5 to Rs 150 per trip, depending on the type of vehicle.
Tamil Nadu currently has 67 functional toll plazas managed by the NHAI. The toll fee revision is carried out annually at 25 of these plazas on September 1, while the remaining plazas undergo fee revisions on April 1. However, due to the elections earlier this year, the toll fee increase for these plazas was postponed until June. During that time, the NHAI raised the toll fees by Rs 5 to Rs 25 at 34 toll plazas across the state, depending on the vehicle category.

With today's hike, the fee increase varies according to the type of vehicle passing through these 25 toll plazas. The fare adjustment means that drivers of different vehicles - from cars and jeeps to buses and trucks - will experience an increased toll cost ranging from Rs 5 for smaller vehicles to as much as Rs 150 for larger vehicles and commercial trucks.
Toll Collection Surge
The toll collection in Tamil Nadu has seen a significant increase in recent years. In the fiscal year 2023-24, the toll plazas in the state collected a massive Rs 4,221 crore, reflecting a 10 percent rise compared to the Rs 3,817 crore collected in 2022-23. This increase is indicative of both growing traffic on the highways and the revised toll rates.
New Toll Plazas and Rates on NH-66
Additionally, the NHAI has announced new toll fees for three recently upgraded toll plazas on National Highway 66, between Tindivanam and Krishnagiri, bringing the total number of toll plazas in the state to 70. These toll plazas - Nangilikondan, Kariyamangalam, and Nagampatti - have their fees set as follows:
Nangilikondan Plaza: Rs 60 for cars, jeeps, and vans; Rs 100 for light commercial vehicles and minibuses; and Rs 210 for buses and two-axle trucks.
Kariyamangalam Plaza: Rs 55 for light motor vehicles; Rs 90 for light commercial vehicles and minibuses; and Rs 195 for buses and two-axle trucks.
Nagampatti Plaza: Rs 60 for light motor vehicles; Rs 100 for light commercial vehicles and minibuses; and Rs 210 for buses and two-axle trucks.
The 182-kilometer stretch of road between Tindivanam and Krishnagiri has recently been upgraded, and the new toll fees are part of the NHAI's efforts to recover the costs associated with this development.
