Tamil Nadu Rains: Is There A School Holiday For Schools In Chennai & Other Regions On Dec 18?

The KTCC region, comprising Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Chennai, and Chengalpattu districts, is preparing for heavy rainfall on Wednesday, as per the Regional Meteorological Centre's forecast. An orange alert has been issued for these districts, indicating the likelihood of significant rain.

While the KTCC region remains under orange alert, neighboring Villupuram, Cuddalore districts, and Puducherry are under a yellow alert for Wednesday, signaling moderate rain activity.

"Light to moderate rain at a few places (at many places over North Coastal Tamilnadu and at a few places over rest Tamilnadu) with thunderstorm and lighting at one or two places is likely to occur over Tamilnadu Puducherry & Karaikal area. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram districts. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Villupuram, Cuddalore districts and Puducherry," the weather agency said in its daily bulletin.

The weather forecast suggests that heavy rains will persist on Thursday in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Kanchipuram districts, maintaining the region's heightened alert status.

Will Schools and Colleges Be Closed?

The repeated spells of heavy rainfall this month have already led to several school and college closures in affected areas, including Chennai. While the weather alerts raise the possibility of another holiday for educational institutions, no official announcement has been made by the local administration till 11 pm on Tuesday.

Hence, more or less educational institutions are likely to remain open on Wednesday.

For Tuesday, Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore districts, and Puducherry remain on yellow alert. The weather department predicts heavy rain at isolated locations across these areas.

Talking about the rains, weather agency Pradeep John said, "Tomorrow 17th not much big rains anywhere in North TN coast. It will be a normal day across Tamil Nadu including KTCC with some isolated rains in the evening / night. School students study well for exams. Office students same old boring life."
