Tamil Nadu: Petrol Bombs Hurled At Karti Chidambaram’s Office In Karaikudi

Unidentified individuals hurled a bottle bomb at at the local office of senior Congress leader P Chidambaram and MP Karti Chidambaram in Subramaniapuram during the early hours of Wednesday.

The attack was discovered when staff arrived at the premises. According to police reports, at least two crude firebombs were thrown at the building. While scorch marks were visible on the exterior, the office remained locked at the time of the incident, and no major property damage or injuries were reported.

The Sivaganga police have launched an investigation, but officials noted that a lack of CCTV cameras at the MP's office has made it difficult to establish a precise timeline of the attack.

"We are currently scanning security footage from neighboring buildings and commercial establishments to track the movement of suspects," said a senior police official. "Special teams have been formed under the direction of Superintendent of Police R. Shiva Prasad to identify the perpetrators."

Karti Chidambaram is serving as a Congress MP from Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu. Born on November 16, 1971, in Chennai, he is the son of senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram.

He lost the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Sivaganga but won in 2019 with 52.36% votes and again in 2024 with 427,677 votes (40.6%), defeating AIADMK's Xavierdass A by over 205,000 votes.

He manages ventures like Advantage Strategic Consulting, involved in consulting, hospitality (e.g., Kaiser Luxury Hotels), and investments abroad. Karti is deeply involved in tennis as Secretary-General of the Indian Tennis Players Association, former AITA vice-president, and Chennai Open organizer; he also leads the Tenpin Bowling Federation of India.
