Tamil Nadu Dams: Check Water Levels In Mettur & Other TN Dams On June 17

Tamil Nadu is home to several major dams that play vital roles in irrigation, hydroelectric power, and water supply.

The most prominent dams in the state include Mettur Dam (Stanley Reservoir), located on the Cauvery River in Salem district. It is one of the largest and most important dams in southern India, serving as a lifeline for irrigation and power generation.

Bhavanisagar Dam, built on the Bhavani River near Erode, is one of the largest earthen dams in the country and supports extensive irrigation. Kallanai Dam (Grand Anicut) is an ancient dam built across the Cauvery River near Tiruchirappalli and it is one of the oldest water-diversion structures still in use today.

Vaigai Dam, located near Andipatti in Theni district, is built across the Vaigai River and supports irrigation and drinking water supply. Aliyar Dam, situated near Pollachi in Coimbatore district, is known for both irrigation and hydroelectric power generation. While Sathanur Dam, built across the Pennaiyar River near Thiruvannamalai, is another significant irrigation dam.
