Live Chennai Central Election Results 2024: Dayanidhi Maran Vs Vinoj P Selvam Vs B Parthasarathy
The counting of votes polled in the April 19 Lok Sabha elections to 39 constituencies in Tamil Nadu began at 8 AM across the state on Tuesday. Counting began amid a heavy police security in all of the 39 counting centres. Postal ballots were taken up first.
As many as 950 candidates are in the fray in the 39 Lok Sabha segments in the state, which had a voter turnout of 69.72 per cent in the April 19 single-phase election in Tamil Nadu.
In what promises to be a David vs Goliath battle, the Chennai Central Lok Sabha constituency is set to witness a showdown between the DMK's Dayanidhi Maran and the BJP's Vinoj P Selvam in the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April 19. Also in the fray are the AIADMK-led bloc's nominee and the Naam Tamilar Katchi.
Chennai Central, with its over 23 lakh voters, is one of the smaller constituencies in Tamil Nadu, which has a total of 39 Parliamentary segments.

The constituency includes the Villivakkam, Egmore, Harbour, Chepauk, Triplicane, and Thousand Lights assembly segments.
Local residents cite erratic water supply, traffic congestion, and inadequate flood control measures during the monsoon as some of the key issues facing the area.
Traditionally, the constituency has been a stronghold of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
Sitting parliamentarian Dayanidhi Maran, is contesting from this segment for the fourth time. In 2019, he secured a massive victory, defeating Sam Paul of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) by a significant margin. Maran garnered 4,47,150 votes, while Paul received 1,46,813 votes.
This time, Maran faces competition from BJP's Vinoj P Selvam, who is a state secretary of the saffron party. The DMDK, led by late actor Vijayakanth and contesting as an AIADMK ally, has fielded B Parthasarathy.
Actor-politician Seeman's NTK has nominated Dr R Karthikeyan, who is contesting for the second time from this constituency. He secured just 30,809 votes in 2019.
The Central Chennai constituency comprises 6,64,076 male voters, 6,78,658 female voters, and 433 transgender voters, totaling 23,58,526 electors.
