Chennai Weather Alert: Holiday Only For Schools, Work From Home Advised As Heavy Rains Lash Tamil Nadu Capital
In view of the heavy rains, the local administration has declared a holiday only for schools and colleges will work like usual on Tuesday.
Several parts of the KTCC (Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Chennai) have witnessed heavy rains in the last 12 hours.
The KTCC region, encompassing Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, and Chennai, has experienced significant rainfall over the past 12 hours. Residents have been advised to work from home to avoid traffic congestion, as many roads in Chennai are waterlogged.

The Regional Meteorological Centre provided an update: "The cyclonic circulation over the Southwest Bay of Bengal persists, extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level and tilting southwestward. A low-pressure area is expected to form in the next 24 hours, moving slowly westward towards the Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka coasts over the following two days. Additionally, a trough from the southwest Bay of Bengal extends to the west-central Bay off the coast of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, reaching up to 1.5 km above mean sea level."
A yellow alert has been issued for 12 districts today, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, and Villuppuram, as well as the Puducherry and Karaikal regions.

Weather blogger R. Pradeep John (PJ) shared on Facebook: "An active phase of rain is expected from November 12-17, with daily rainfall in KTCC (Chennai) from November 12-16. The fifth spell of the monsoon will begin tonight or tomorrow morning due to the low-pressure system in the southwest Bay of Bengal. Heavy rain is anticipated on November 12, especially in KTCC. Northern districts, including Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Ranipet, Vellore, Salem, Bangalore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Trichy, Perambalur, Cuddalore, Pondicherry, and Kallakurichi, as well as parts of the Delta, will also see rain."
