Women's Day 2025 Inspiring Stories: In a world where perseverance and determination shape destinies, one woman in Dindigul has rewritten the narrative of female empowerment. Meet Lakshmi Priya, a woman who has shattered societal norms and proven that no industry is beyond a woman's reach. For 15 years, she has been driving an auto, navigating the bustling streets of Dindigul with unwavering confidence.
Meet Lakshmi Priya, Dindigul's First Lady Auto Driver
Lakshmi Priya's journey wasn't an easy one. "I didn't even know how to ride a bicycle properly, but today, I drive an auto because of my self-confidence," she says with a proud smile. In a profession long dominated by men, she has emerged as a beacon of hope for women aspiring to achieve financial independence.

Unlike major cities like Chennai, where female auto drivers are more commonly seen, small towns and villages still witness a stark gender gap in this field. The challenges are many-safety concerns, societal perceptions, and the physical demands of the job. Yet, Lakshmi Priya has faced them all head-on.
Inspiring Journey
It all began when she found herself in need of a livelihood. Encouraged by her brother, she decided to take up auto driving. Initially, she restricted herself to transporting school children. However, as her confidence grew, so did her ambition. She started taking passengers from the bus stand, breaking through the barriers that had long kept women out of this industry.
At first, she was hesitant. Navigating congested roads and dealing with skeptical passengers was no small feat. But over time, she mastered the art, becoming not just a driver but an inspiration. Women passengers, who often hesitated to take autos driven by men, found comfort and security in Lakshmi Priya's vehicle. Her presence on the roads of Dindigul became a testament to the evolving roles of women in society.

Through sheer hard work and resilience, Lakshmi Priya has earned the respect of her peers. She believes that gender should never be a barrier to success. "Achievement is not about being a man or a woman; it's about understanding, hard work, and perseverance," she says firmly.
Her dream is simple yet profound-to see more women stepping into unconventional fields and making their mark. With a determined spirit, she vows to continue driving her auto for as long as she can, setting an example for generations to come.
On this Women's Day, One India takes immense pride in celebrating Lakshmi Priya, the first female auto driver of Dindigul. Her journey is a powerful reminder that with courage and determination, any road can be conquered.
