Recently, wildlife officials rescued and released a gigantic 12-foot King Cobra back into the wild in Agumbe, Karnataka.

Ajay Giri, field director at the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station (ARRS), shared the rescue video on Instagram, which was later reposted on X by Indian Forest Service officer Susanta Nanda.

"King Cobra in Agumbe Ghat in western ghat of South Karnataka. Rescued & released safely," Nanda wrote on X when sharing the video.

In Giri's Instagram post, he mentioned that villagers spotted the cobra crossing a main road and taking shelter in a bush within a house compound. The homeowner immediately informed the forest department and ARRS officials, reported NDTV.

Giri quickly went to the scene with his team, providing locals with instructions over the phone on how to handle the situation safely. After assessing the situation, the team carefully used a rod to remove the snake from the bush, placed it into a rescue bag, and then released it back into the wild in front of the locals and forest department officials.

Online viewers were captivated by the video, praising the snake catchers for their skills.

One user remarked, "What a gorgeous cobra. Thank you for saving him."

Another comment read, "So professionally done as compared to so many videos online!!"

A third person said, "It is so satisfying to watch him go back to his natural habitat, rescue team."

A fourth user added, "What an incredibly majestic King Cobra this is! Not only have you saved him, but you have probably saved about 10 snakes nearby."

A fifth one, "Well handled. Minimum or no stress to the King. No bash display of the King to the World...a rarity after scores of SM posts gloating the same."

National Geographic reports that King cobras are the longest venomous snakes in the world.

These snakes can "stand up" and look a person in the eye. The neurotoxin they release in a single bite is potent enough to kill 20 people.
