Reddit To Set Up Office In Bengaluru, Speeds Up Hiring Process As Social Media Giant Expands Presence In India

Social media giant Reddit is expanding its presence in India by opening an office in Bengaluru, according to a report by Moneycontrol.

The San Francisco-based platform has been actively recruiting talent across various departments to support its operations in India, which hosts the company's second-largest user base globally.

The report states that Reddit has hired professionals in areas such as growth, community management, strategy, policy, operations, and finance, with some positions offering the option of remote work.

This hiring drive is part of Reddit's strategy to establish a stronger presence in India and offer a more localized experience for its users.

In a significant move last year, Reddit registered two business entities in Mumbai-Reddit Technologies India Private Limited and Reddit Community Network India Private Limited-further cementing its commitment to the Indian market.

Reddit aims to tailor its platform to Indian users, following a similar approach it has taken in other key regions. However, the company has not yet issued an official statement regarding its expansion plans.

India, recognised as the world's second-largest internet economy, has become a crucial market for global social media firms seeking both user acquisition and revenue growth. While Meta dominates the space with over a billion users across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, and Snap Inc. boasts more than 200 million monthly active users in India as of May 2023, Reddit is also seeing significant traction.

Although Reddit has not disclosed its Indian user numbers, Moneycontrol reported that the platform's daily unique active users increased by 90% year-on-year during the July-September 2024 period. Notably, the platform has also experienced a 20% rise in female users.

The growing engagement on Reddit India is largely driven by communities focused on Bollywood, cricket, finance, and technology. City-specific subreddits discussing local issues are also flourishing, particularly in major cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, and Gurugram.
