Record-Breaking Of Rs. 409 Crore Liquor Sales In Karnataka As Residents Prepare For New Year 2025

In a remarkable feat, Karnataka witnessed its highest single-day liquor sales on December 28, with transactions soaring to Rs 409 crore. This surge in sales is attributed to the enthusiastic preparations for New Year's Eve, as residents of Bengaluru and the wider state are eagerly stocking up on spirits to ring in 2025. The Karnataka State Beverages Corporation Limited (KSBCL) played a pivotal role in this record-breaking achievement by operating on the fourth Saturday of the month, a decision that significantly boosted sales.

The Federation of Wine Merchants Association highlighted that the KSBCL's decision to remain open and offer credit facilities to licensed liquor sellers on December 28 contributed to this unprecedented spike in sales. It's noteworthy that this decision came despite the nation observing a seven-day mourning period in honor of the late former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. On this particular Saturday, the state saw the sale of 6.22 lakh boxes of Indian Made Liquor (IML) valued at Rs 327.50 crore, alongside 4.04 lakh boxes of beer, which garnered Rs 88.58 crore. In total, 10.27 lakh boxes of liquor were sold, amassing Rs 408.58 crore in sales.

Karnataka's Exceptional Liquor Sales Amid Mourning

The exceptional sales figures were recorded against the backdrop of a public holiday declared to mourn the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh, which had initially dampened the spirits of the liquor trade by halting sales on Friday. Nevertheless, the Federation of Wine Merchants Association's plea to the KSBCL to resume operations and extend credit facilities on a holiday received approval, marking a notable first in the state's history of liquor trade. This move not only compensated for the previous day's loss in sales but also underscored the adaptability of the state's liquor market in times of unexpected closures.

The Federation of Wine Merchants Association of Karnataka, through its General Secretary B Govind Raja Hegde, expressed gratitude towards the KSBCL and the Excise Department for their accommodating stance. This gesture of facilitating business on a holiday with credit services was hailed as incredibly beneficial for the industry, showcasing a forward-thinking approach to maintaining robust sales amidst unique challenges.
