PIL on Chikkajala Stop Along Blue Line Dismissed by Court

The Namma Metro Blue Line, intended to connect Kempegowda International Airport, is currently under construction. However, the absence of a station between Bagalur Cross and Sadahalli has upset local residents, who are advocating for a station at Chikkajala. Although the station was included in the Detailed Project Report (DPR), it has not been constructed to date. The Karnataka High Court recently dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by locals, stating that the matter falls outside its judicial purview. Nevertheless, the court instructed the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to respond to residents' grievances.

Local Concerns Over Missing Metro Station

Residents are frustrated by the lack of a metro station on the 8.5-km stretch between Bagalur Cross and Sadahalli. While the DPR approved stations near Bettahalasuru and Hunasamaranahalli, no stations have been built at Chikkajala or Vidyanagar Cross. Locals have protested and submitted petitions to the Chief Minister and BMRCL officials, but have not received a substantive response. Their concerns led to the filing of a PIL, which was dismissed by the High Court. However, the court instructed BMRCL to address the residents' demands.

Metro Construction Progress

The government and BMRCL aim to start metro services to Kempegowda International Airport by 2026, with rapid construction visible, including erected pillars and ongoing track work. Despite these developments, local dissatisfaction persists due to the lack of stations at certain locations, resulting in continued protests and legal actions from affected communities.
