Namma Metro Smashes Ridership Records: 9.17 Lakh Commuters In A Single Day
On August 14, Namma Metro in Bengaluru achieved a new milestone with 9,17,365 passengers using its services, according to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). This surpassed the previous record of 8,65,000 passengers set on August 6, 2024. The Purple Line, connecting Challaghatta to Kadugodi (Whitefield), saw 4,43,000 riders.

The Green Line, stretching from Nagasandra to Silk Institute, recorded 3,01,000 passengers. Additionally, the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station (Majestic interchange station) experienced significant footfalls with 1,72,000 passengers on the same day.
Namma Metro's Record-Breaking Day
Despite this achievement, the increasing number of passengers has brought to light ongoing issues such as overcrowding. Recent videos on social media show severe congestion and rising frustration among commuters. Some reports even mention verbal disputes as passengers struggle for space.
In response to these challenges, BMRCL officials have stated that several measures are being implemented to ease congestion. These include introducing short-loop services during peak hours to distribute passenger load more evenly and ensuring train intervals are kept at three minutes or less.
The Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station (Majestic interchange station) also experienced significant footfalls with 1,72,000 passengers passing through on August 14. This highlights the station's importance as a major interchange hub in Bengaluru's metro network.
BMRCL's efforts aim to manage the high volume of commuters effectively. By implementing these measures, they hope to provide a more comfortable and efficient travel experience for all passengers.
