Karnataka Weather Alert: Bengaluru Rains Expected In Coming Days? Check Weather Forecast

As the Bengaluru city grapples with a worsening water crisis, India's Silicon Valley now faces an additional challenge: a brutal heatwave.

March's promise of rain failed to materialise, leaving the IT hub parched and residents pinning their hopes on dwindling water supplies.

When will it rain in Bengaluru

Adding to the woes, daytime temperatures in the Karnataka capital also known as Garden City have soared above normal. The past week has been particularly scorching, with the city recording a maximum temperature of 36.6°C on Friday, the fourth highest in 15 years for March. Saturday surpassed even that, reaching a scorching 37.9°C - the hottest March temperature in five years.

What are experts saying about the unusual weather conditions?

Experts attribute this intense heat to a combination of global warming and the El Niño effect, a weather phenomenon causing warmer Pacific Ocean temperatures.

While Bengaluru's maximum temperature is expected to hover around 35-36°C this week, the situation is even more alarming in North Karnataka.

When will it rain in Bengaluru

Bengaluru Rains forecast:

As per accuweather, on May 13, Bengaluru will experience mostly cloudy weather with a couple of showers, primarily occurring late in the day. The city, known for its unpredictable weather patterns, will see a mix of cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall, providing some relief from the scorching heat.

Meanwhile, the South interior districts of Kodagu, Mysuru, and Belgaum are expected to experience thundershowers. Coastal areas like Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada, as well as hilly regions such as Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, and Shimoga, are likely to receive moderate rain. Dry air is expected to prevail over the rest of the state.

Despite rising temperatures in many places in the northern hinterland, the weather Department has issued a warning of possible thunderstorms and lightning in some areas of Bagalkot, Belgaum, and Vijayapur.

Heatwave warning:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for the region between April 2nd and 5th. Areas like Bagalkot, Bellari, Hampi, Raichur, Gadag, and Gangavathi are expected to experience particularly high temperatures, potentially reaching a staggering 45°C.

The Ballari district has already been feeling the heat, with temperatures exceeding 40°C for the past week. This scorching heat has resulted in over 20 children under 10 years old being hospitalized for dehydration, fever, and vomiting.

The Ballari district administration has urged residents, especially children and the elderly, to avoid direct sunlight during peak heat hours (1 PM to 4 PM) and take necessary precautions to stay safe.
