Karnataka Weather Alert: Bengaluru Braces For Heavy Rain As IMD Issues Yellow Alert On December 12
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for Karnataka as a well-marked low-pressure system over the southwest Bay of Bengal impacts regional weather. Currently situated off the Sri Lanka coast, the system is expected to move west-northwestward toward the Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coasts within the next 24 hours, bringing significant weather changes to parts of Karnataka.
On December 12, 2024, the IMD issued a yellow alert, predicting heavy rain and thunderstorms in several districts of South Interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Tumkur, Chitradurga, Chamarajanagar, Ramanagara, Kolar, Mysuru, Mandya, and Kodagu.

Other districts in the region are likely to experience light to moderate rain, while isolated showers are expected in parts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada. In contrast, North Interior Karnataka, Uttara Kannada, and some districts in South Interior Karnataka are expected to remain dry. Shallow to moderate fog may develop in isolated areas of North Interior Karnataka, posing visibility challenges.
On December 13, rainfall is expected to ease, with light to moderate showers likely in districts such as Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, and Mandya. The rest of South Interior Karnataka and North Interior Karnataka are predicted to experience dry weather, although foggy conditions may persist in isolated locations in the northern region.

A dry spell is forecast for the entire state on December 14 and 15, bringing a temporary respite from rain.
Residents in areas expected to receive heavy rainfall, especially Bengaluru and Mysuru, are advised to take precautions to avoid waterlogging and potential flooding. Motorists should remain cautious in fog-prone regions to ensure safe travel.
