Karnataka Rain Alert: IMD Issues Orange Alert For Coastal Karnataka And Udupi, Schools Closed

A red alert has been declared in the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, and Shimoga due to heavy rainfall. Additionally, regions including Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Bellary, Hassan, Kodagu, and Mysuru are also experiencing significant rain.

In Bengaluru, cloudy weather is expected, with rain likely. The weather forecast indicates the following temperatures:

  • HAL: Maximum 29.1°C, Minimum 21.0°C
  • City: Maximum 28.0°C, Minimum 21.5°C
  • KIAL: Maximum 29.6°C, Minimum 21.4°C
  • GKVK: Maximum 29.2°C, Minimum 18.0°C

School Closures and Precautions in Dakshina Kannada

Due to continuous heavy rains in Dakshina Kannada, District Collector Mullai Mugilan has declared a holiday for all primary, high schools, and undergraduate colleges. Anganwadi centers and fishermen have been advised against going out to sea. People residing near rivers and the coast have been urged to exercise caution.

Orange Alert Issued

An orange alert has been issued for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts from tomorrow until the 18th. Consequently, schools and colleges in Dakshina Kannada will remain closed in anticipation of more rain.

In Kadaba, Dakshina Kannada district, a dilapidated school building has collapsed. The public and tourists are advised to avoid low-lying areas, riverbanks, and coastal regions. Fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into the sea for fishing.

Due to the heavy rains, the public is urged to avoid areas near rivers, ditches, and electrical infrastructure. It is crucial to stay away from potential danger zones and adhere to district administration guidelines to prevent accidents.

In case of any incidents related to the natural calamity, residents are advised to promptly inform their respective Panchayat or City Local Bodies.

The Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district administrations are fully prepared to handle the situation. Precautionary measures have been initiated to mitigate potential risks. Residents are encouraged to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Emergency services, including the police, fire department, and medical teams, are on high alert to respond to any incidents caused by the heavy rains.
