Karnataka Government Provides Cashless Medical Treatment For KSRTC Employees
The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has taken a significant step towards enhancing the welfare of its employees by introducing a cashless treatment system. This initiative, set to commence from January 6, marks a pioneering move amongst state-owned transport corporations in India, ensuring that KSRTC workers have access to comprehensive medical care without the burden of upfront payments. An impressive tally of 225 hospitals across Karnataka has been enlisted to support this scheme, covering a wide array of treatments, including specialized eye care. The move aims to alleviate the financial stress on employees regarding medical expenses, a concern that previously necessitated a reimbursement approach.
This innovative healthcare provision is part of a broader strategy to roll out similar benefits across three other state-owned transport entities in subsequent phases, namely North West Karnataka, BMTC, and North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation. KSRTC Chairman S.R. Srinivas highlighted the scheme's inclusivity, stating, "The employees will be given information about which hospitals they have been registered in. In addition, we will also distribute health cards. They can show the card at the hospital and get treatment." This statement underscores a significant leap towards streamlining medical access for the workforce, ensuring they receive timely and efficient care.

Expanding Healthcare Benefits Across Karnataka
This initiative not only benefits the employees directly but extends its reach to their immediate family members, including spouses, children, and parents, thereby covering approximately seven lakh families associated with the transport company. A total of 1.15 lakh employees across the four corporations stand to gain from this scheme, reinforcing KSRTC's commitment to the health and well-being of its staff and their families. Notably, permanent employees are required to contribute a nominal annual fee of Rs 650 to avail of this facility, with the corporation adding a 5% subsidy to the scheme. Trainees, on the other hand, are exempt from any contribution, further illustrating the corporation's dedication to supporting its workforce at all levels.
In addition to the healthcare initiative, KSRTC is enhancing its service offerings by introducing new Ambari Utsav Sleeper buses that will operate on nine routes, including the Bangalore-Mangaluru corridor. This development not only augments KSRTC's operational capacity but also signifies its ongoing efforts to improve travel comfort and convenience for passengers across the state.
The cashless treatment system and the expansion of bus services collectively highlight KSRTC's dual focus on employee welfare and customer service.
