Gruha Jyoti Scheme Karnataka: Bengaluru Residents Receive Unusually High Bill Despite Free Electricity

As the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka had announced to give five guarantees (Congress Guarantee Scheme) before the elections in the state, people were thrilled to hear that they would receive free electricity under the Griha Jyothi Scheme. But now, a shocking development has left many beneficiaries in a state of panic.

According to reports, more than ₹ 1000 electricity bills have been received by over 20 customers in the area of Yeshwantpur, with BESCOM giving them a rude shock by sending them bills worth thousands of rupees. The affected customers had been paying 0 current bill for the last nine months, but suddenly, they received bills ranging from ₹4,273 to ₹1,400.

The Bescom company's negligence of meter reader resulted in additional bills for Grihajyoti beneficiaries, who were expecting free electricity. The customers are shocked and have complained to the BESCOM office in Yeshwantpur, stating that they are yet to receive an explanation from the officials.

"It's a shock to see such a massive bill despite paying 0 current bill for months," said one of the affected customers. "We are still trying to figure out how this happened and what we should do about it."

The situation has left many Grihajyoti beneficiaries worried about their financial stability, as they were expecting free electricity as promised by the government. The government's guarantee scheme has turned into a nightmare for these customers.
