Dog Meat Sold In Bengaluru? 1,500 Kg Of Red Meat Seized At KSR Railway Station

Authorities seized a substantial quantity of red meat arriving in numerous cartons at KSR Bengaluru railway station near Majestic on Friday evening.

Suspected Dog Meat 1 500 kg Of Red Meat Confiscated At Bengaluru Railway Station

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Bengaluru police swiftly responded to the Okalipuram entrance of Karnataka's busiest train station after a large crowd gathered on platform number 8 around 7 p.m. amid rumors that the meat was "dog meat."

Initial estimates suggested the meat weighed 5,000 kg; however, an officer from the Cottonpet police station confirmed the quantity to be 1,500 kg. Authorities are currently investigating the source of the shipment and whether the sender had the necessary permits. Food inspectors are also on-site, collecting samples for further analysis.

Speaking to the media, Rizwan said, "For the past six months, I've had suspicions because they were selling meat at such a low price, between Rs 550 and Rs 600 per kg. The price of mutton in Bengaluru is usually between Rs 750 and Rs 800 per kg." He also mentioned that he had informed Abdul Razak about his concerns and had filed complaints with the Chief Minister, FSSAI, and the BBMP Commissioner. However, no action has been taken.

On the other hand, Abdul Razak, who has been accused of selling dog meat, claimed, "We are running this business legally. We have slaughterhouses in Jaipur, and the meat is stored at -5 degrees Celsius before being transported to Bengaluru by train."

When asked about the allegations of selling dog meat, Abdul Razak showed a video of a goat from Bakrid. He stated, "He tried to make a roll call and will submit all the proof regarding this."

Tensions flared at railway station following allegations by Hindu activists that dog meat from Rajasthan was being supplied to Bengaluru.

Dog Meat Prohibition in India

In India, the consumption and trade of dog meat are subject to legal restrictions, although specific regulations vary by state. The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, prohibits the killing and consumption of animals in a manner that causes unnecessary suffering, which extends to dogs.

Several states have implemented their own bans or restrictions on dog meat:

Nagaland and Mizoram: Both states have specific provisions against the slaughter of dogs and the sale of dog meat.
Arunachal Pradesh: A ban on dog meat was implemented in 2019 following concerns over animal cruelty.
Meghalaya: While not explicitly banned, there are regulations concerning the treatment of animals, including dogs.
