Bengaluru Water Crisis: BWSSB To Supply Treated Water To M Chinnaswamy Stadium For IPL 2024 Matches

Amidst the ongoing water crisis in Karnataka, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has decided to supply treated water to Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy stadium for odd jobs like pitch preparation and sprinkling for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). As per the match schedule shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Royal Challengers Bangalore will host three games in the first 15 days of the tournament on March 25 vs Punjab Kings, March 29 vs Kolkata Knight Rider and April 2 against Lucknow Super Giants.

According to the reports, the decision to supply treated water at the stadium was taken after a discussion with the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) officials in view of the Bengaluru Water Crisis.

BWSSB To Supply Treated Water

The reports added that around 75,000 liters of water would be needed daily during the IPL matches. The BWSSB will supply water from the Cubbon Park wastewater treatment plant to the M Chinnaswamy stadium.

The decision was taken in the light of people struggling to get water for their daily use and to prevent the misuse of groundwater and Cauvery River water while encouraging and awaring people of the city for the optimal utilisation of treated water.

The BWSSB chairman Ram Prasad Manohar told the media that the water supply body is committed to save every single drop of water and will supply treated water to the cricket stadium.

Earlier, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the Banguluru is facing a shortage of 500 million litres of water perday (MLD) compaired to 2,600 MLDs water, which is required to fulfill the basic needs of people of the state.
